New Regulations: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) - Roadability Regulations
Announcement 2009-380
Effective: December 17, 2009

Dear Intermodal Customers,

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) requires all Intermodal Equipment Providers (IEP’s) to ensure that equipment interchanged to Motor Carriers (including draymen) is safe and in proper operating condition. To support the Regulations, the IEP and Motor Carrier have the following responsibilities, outlined in the attached PDF file, which become effective December 17, 2009. Union Pacific and IANA have developed programs which will support a major part of the IEP's compliance responsibilities. Please read the attached document for further details regarding the regulations and support programs.

For additional information please contact your Business Manager or Regional Sales Manager. Thank you for your commitment to Intermodal and the Union Pacific Railroad.

Sincerely,

Intermodal Business Team
